25 Per Cent Corporate Tax suffocating Rural Banks - Apex Bank MD appeals for drastic reduction

Until September 1, 2015, when the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced the new Income Tax Act 2015, (Act 896), the Rural and Community Banks (RCBs) were paying eight percent tax on their annual income, which was increased to 25 percent.

Weto Rural Bank limited was incorporated in 1981 as Kpeve Rural Bank Limited and renamed a few months later to the current name. Having complied with the licensing requirements of Bank of Ghana (BOG) it started commercial operation in March 1983 as a banking Financial Institution at Kpeve.

The bank is authorized to engage in deposits mobilization, granting of loans, money transfer services etc. It is also accredited to provide banking services on Saturdays and Sundays.
